I woke up after 8 hours of much-needed sleep and ready to tackle the outdoor run I’d planned for today. I do love Healthworks, but I do not love that they are never open on holidays. It’s absolutely beautiful here today (mid 70s, sunny and with a little breeze) but when the weather is really hot or really cold, I’ll really miss the option of exercising indoors.
To fuel up for my run, I ate my usual whole wheat toast with almond butter, banana and cinnamon.
My run started off really well! I ran my first mile in 9:06 and the second one was 9:15. By then, I couldn’t ignore the fact that I was having a really hard time breathing and that my throat/chest hurt. I’ve mentioned before on the blog that I have asthma, and it’s been bothering me a lot lately. I decided that it was better not to chance a full on asthma attack (even though I’d already taken my inhaler) and to turn around to walk back home.
I was definitely bummed that I was missing out on running in such beautiful weather but more upset that this problem seems to be getting worse, not better. When I visited my primary care physician about a month ago, she gave me the name of an allergy and asthma specialist to keep on hand in case my breathing problems became worse. So on my walk back, I decided that I’ll call tomorrow to get seen ASAP. With this half marathon in about 2 months, I need as much outdoor running as I can get!
I tried not to think too much about how upset I was on my way back and to focus on how beautiful the weather was and how the seasons are changing. When did the leaves start turning over?!?!
We don’t have many plans for today, so I’m planning on relaxing and spending as much time outside as I can. How are you spending your Labor Day?
